Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT) is honored to organize the “2017 CDIO Asian Regional Meeting” in cooperation with Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University. The objective of the meeting is to provide opportunities for educators to share and discuss the education reformation and innovation. RMUTT and Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University have joined the CDIO Initiatives since 2014. With the recognition of the importance of the education as a major factor for country’s development, CDIO Initiatives has promoted an innovative education framework for producing the next generation graduates. The 2017 CDIO Asian Regional Meeting is open to educators in various fields: Engineering, Science & Technology, Social Science and Arts, experts from industries and start-up companies, and others from Thailand and Asian countries.
The CDIO™ INITIATIVE is an innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of engineers. The framework provides students with an education stressing engineering fundamentals set in the context of Conceiving — Designing — Implementing — Operating (CDIO) real-world systems and products. Throughout the world, CDIO Initiative collaborators have adopted CDIO as the framework of their curricular planning and outcome-based assessment. CDIO collaborators recognize that an engineering education is acquired over a long period and in a variety of institutions, and that educators in all parts of this spectrum can learn from practice elsewhere. The CDIO network therefore welcomes members in a diverse range of institutions ranging from research-led internationally acclaimed universities to local colleges dedicated to providing students with their initial grounding in engineering.
Unique Characteristics of CDIO-based Education
- A curriculum organized around mutually supporting courses, but with CDIO activities highly interwoven
- Rich with student design-build-test projects
- Integrating learning of professional skills such as teamwork and communication
- Featuring active and experiential learning
- Constantly improved through quality assurance process with higher aims than accreditation
CDIO in Thailand
Current members of CDIO Initiatives in Thailand are RMUTT and Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University who joined the CDIO Initiatives since 2014 and 2016 respectively. Both universities have implemented CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate) Teaching and Learning Framework in its engineering departments. By 2015, the CDIO-based Education framework has reached to non-engineering disciplines as well as other Thai universities.
